World Badminton war die offizielle
weltweite Zeitschriftenpublikation in der Sportart Badminton. Die Zeitschrift
war das Organ der Badminton World Federation, damals noch als International
Badminton Federation bekannt, und wurde meist zweimonatlich von dieser

bearbeiten] Die erste Ausgabe erschien im Januar 1972
mit Herbert Scheele als Editor. Nach 33 erschienenen Heften und dem Ruhestand
von Scheele im April 1978 wurde die Produktion nach Kanada verlegt, wo der
Präsident des kanadischen Verbandes, Lorne Wortman, persönlich für die
Herausgabe verantwortlich zeichnete. 1982 erfolgte eine erneute Verlegung nach
Schottland, 1984 eine weitere nach England. Mit dem 27. Jahrgang 1999 wurde das
Erscheinen von World Badminton eingestellt.
HONG KONG, May 24, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen of Denmarktoday staged a spectacular comeback winover Dong Jiong of China to boost Denmark into the finals of the world men's team championships of badminton (Thomas Cup) on Sunday night in Hong Kong.The Danish cause was also helped by Michael Sogaard and Henrik Svarrer,winner of the second doubles in the Denmark-China semifinal tie,and Peter Rasmussen,winner of the deciding third singles match.
Hoyer looked like a sure loser to Dong as he had dropped the first game 6-15 and was behind 1-13 in the second.Hoyer got his game together as Dong tired and lost his sharpness.Hoyer crept back to 13-all on accurate shots to the lines and Dong's errors.In the 5-point setting,Dong raised to 2-0 3-1 and 4-1 leads but Hoyer again dug deep into his reserves and pressured Dong into 4 errors to win at 18-17.
The third game was another battle,but the 30-year-old Hoyer's composure carried the day as he again pressured Dong into errors and won 15-11.

(NEW SHUTTLENWS) - Host Indonesia's hopes of reasserting its former primacy in
badminton men's singles this year came to an end yesterday during the final day
of the round-robin phase of the World Grand Prix Finals being staged at the
Senayan Stadium in Jakarta. Hermawan Susanto, the only Indonesian who had
remained undefeated in the competition and the only one from the host team who
started the day with a good chance of making the semifinals, was defeated by
Olympic champion Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen of Denmark 13-15, 15-7 and 15-8.
There was some controversy in the women's doubles event yesterday. World champions Ge Fei and Gu Jun went down to defeat at the hands of teammates Qiang Hong and Liu Lu 7-15 and 4-15. With their unexpected lopsided victory, Qiang and Liu were able to nose out Indonesia's Indarti Isolina and Denyana Lomban for a spot in the semifinals, where they will play teammates Qin Yiyuan and Tang Yongshu. Ge Fei and Gu Jun will be matched against Eliza Nathanael and Resiana Zelin of Indonesia in the other semifinal.
The performance of Ge Fei and Gu Jun was so off-form that Christian Hadinata, the Indonesian team manager, filed a protest with the tournament referee.

With the victory, the Malaysian side may have clinched a one of the two semifinal berths from the tough Group B, barring a disastrous loss on Monday to the Netherlands.
Malaysia was led by Ong Ewe Hock who beat Hwang Sun Ho 15-6 and 15-10, Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock who defeated All-England champions Lee Dong Soo and Yoo Yung Sung in a thriller 14-18, 15-8 and 15-12, and Yong Hock Kin who notched the clincher with a 15-9 and 15-7 win over Ahn Jae Chang.
Malaysians Lee Wan Wah and Choong Tan Fook lost to Ha Tae Kwon and Kang Kyung Jin 5-15 and 6-15 in the fourth match, while M. Roslin Hashim beat Korean doubles specialist Kim Dong Moon 15-13 and 15-4 in the final encounter.

In the evening semifinal, Indonesian Susi Susanti vanquished a nervous and off-form Bang Soo Huyn 11-7 11-0 to give her country a 1-0 lead over Korea. Eliza and Zelin Rosiana surprised Gil Young Ah and Jang Hye Ock with their quickness and power at the net and their focused attack on the teenager Jang 15-2 17-16.Mia Audina wasted match point in her second game against a determined Kim Ji Hyun. It took her a third game before she could clinch the tie for Indonesia.The Audina-Kim scoreline was 11-6 11-12 11-4. Finarshi and Lili Tampi may it 4-0 for Indonesia with a hard fought win over Kim Mee Hyang and Kim Shin Young 10-15 15-6 13-7. Ra Kyung Min of Korea won the final match against Yuliani Sentoso 11-4 11-4.

HONG KONG, May 25, 1996 (D.Shuttlenws) - Indonesia today defeated a youthful Chinese team 4 matches to 1 in the finals of the world women's team championships of badminton to retain the Uber Cup in Indonesian hands.China's young players did not have the composure to withstand the pressure of playing in the championship tie of the most important women's badminton competition.On the other hand,Indonesia's veterans like Susi Susanti, Lili Tampi and Finarsih carried them through.
In the opening singles match, Susi Susanti unsettled Ye Zhaoying with a mid-match change to an attacking style to stage a comeback win 4-11 11-5 11-5. In the second match, Gu Jun and Ge Fei of China got their composure back in time to beat Eliza and Zelin Resiana 7-15 15-8 15-12. Mia Audina, a Uber Cup finals veteran at the age of 16, met the Chinese junior player,Wang Chen,a surprise selection by the Chinese coaches,in the third match. Audina took advantage of Wang's rookie miscues and beat her with ease 11-4 11-6.
In the fourth match, Indonesians Lili Tampi and Finarsi capitalized on a tentative and defensive Qin Yiyuan and Tang Yongshu to win the first game 15-9 and to reach match point at 14-10 in the second.The ensuing series of exchanges were fast and furious as the Chinese fought to stay in the match. In the end though, the younger Chinese made the final error and the Indonesians won 15-10.Jubilation erupted on the Indonesian's side as they rushed Tampi and Finarsi and hugged them with joy while the Indonesian supporters sang and cheered in the stands.Indonesia's women had come through with a great win after poor performances in 1995 and early 1996.In the academic fifth match, Meiluawati of Indonesia defeated a tearful and half-interested Zhang Ning 11-6 11-2.
